All staff and students are invited to attend a lecture entitled:
Is Sustainability a Myth?

There is scientific consensus that humanity is approaching the carrying capacity of our planet. Indeed, some argue that we have already exceeded our limits. In response to these concerns, politicians, governments, government departments, companies, and others are now all proclaiming how ‘environmentally friendly’ they are becoming, or will become. 
But, can we really believe these claims, or is it all just so much greenwashing? We are seeing a lot of use of the ‘S’ word these days, but what does sustainability really mean? 
This lecture will explore what sustainability really is, and discuss what it is that we truly have to do to achieve a sustainable society.

Call for Papers and Posters
International Panel Products Symposium
8,9 October 2008

Papers are invited from academia, panel producers, equipment suppliers and end users. We are particularly interested to hear from you if you have work, experience or comments to make in the following areas:
  • Raw material supply relating not only to the primary raw material - wood but also to resin and additive supplies. Availability of wood and competition from other areas, use of non wood materials and recycled / reclaimed material.
  • Methods of processing, screening and cleaning raw materials particularly recycled wood.
  • Resins and additives. Lowering formaldehyde and other VOC's, legislation and inter national and national regulations. Testing and monitoring.
  • Blending of resins with furnishes, new developments and benefits. End users of panels, market wants and needs, what they are and how we achieve them.
Deadline for papers is 29th February 2008.
